Christ told Satan "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" when he was tempted to turn stones into bread. The scriptures also let us know that we must study to show ourselves approved. A lifestyle of study of the scriptures is what true disciples of Christ practice in order to grow and take careful heed to observe and apply the word in our spiritual walk thus prolonging it unto righteousness and eternal life.
